The low concentration of selenium in surface waters means that it is often present at levels below the limits of detection (LODs) of traditional analytical methods. This article investigates preconcentration methods that can be used to improve the LOD for selenium and discusses their suitability with respect to the different selenium species. © 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.
