UV-Vis spectroscopic analysis showed the receptor gave a rapid colorimetric response that could also be detected visually at environmentally relevant concentrations. Spiked soil samples were used to demonstrate detection of perfluorooctanoic acid without intensive sample pre-treatment or laboratory instrument analysis.
