A meeting of the Royal Society of Tasmania was held on, the lOth June at the Museum, Argyle-street. His Excellencv the Governor, Sir A. E. Havelock. G.C.S.I., G.C.M.G., President of the Society, presided. Mr. J. H. Maiden, Director of the Botanic Gardens, Sydney, was elected a corresponding member, and Messrs. W. A. Finlay and F. Grove were elected members.

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844.
