The first monthly meeting of the session of I891 was held on Tuesday evening, April 21st. The President His Excellency Sir R. G. C. Hamilton, K.C. B., presided, and there was a good attendance of Fellows. Lady Hamilton and a number of ladies were also present. Rev. F.R.M. Wilson, Kew, Victoria, was elected a corresponding member.

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844.
