The first meeting of the session of 1893 was held by the Royal Society of Tasmania, at the Art Gallery on Monday, May 25. His lordship the Bishop of Tasmania (Dr. Montgomery) presided. There was a large attendance. Includes list of members and fellows elected. The Secretary (Mr. A. Morton) then read the following annual report, trustees of the British Museum presented a valuable collection of works. A Paper was read by His Lordship the Bishop of Tasmania, entitled: "Notes on a visit to some of the English Museums." Mr. R. M, Johnston, F.L.S., read a paper on the geology of Mount La Perouse, which was written by Mr. H. W. Nicholls. The Secretary (Mr. Morton) read the following paper, prepared by Messrs. W. H. Twelvetrees, F.G S., and W. F. Petterd, C M.Z.S. entitled: "Notes on Humeri of a Tasmanian labyrinthodont." Mr. J. W. Beattie read a paper on a recent trip to Port Davey.

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844.
