In the history of the modern world the formulation of an appropriate ontology, geography, and ethics of belonging may never have been so urgent as it is right now. At this time when socio-political, economic, and environmental instability has reached global proportions, the nature of our relationships with, and commitments to, each other and the environment are matters of increasing signi„±cance and equally intense existential concern. The quest to know who we are, „±nd our place, and understand what it is that constitutes a properly human and ethical mode of being in the world has renewed impetus and vitality.
