The Workman-Reynolds 'freezing potential': a new look at the inherent physical process

Recent published results and a re-analysis of existing measurements of the Workman–Reynolds Freezing Potential allow a redefinition the electric potential created when ice grows into a dilute salt solution. The entire process is largely determined by the solubility and diffusivity of the ion species being incorporated differentially into the ice lattice. This new look at the Workman–Reynolds effect shows that the voltage itself is of secondary interest, and rather it is the time to reach peak voltage, which is of paramount interest in the study of the mechanism.
