journal contributionposted on 2023-05-22, 05:26 authored by James ChinJames Chin
Papua New Guinea went to the polls in 2002 lull of expectations that the nation will elect a new government after a severe downturn in the economy. The economy has been on the decline since 1999, registering negative growth lor 2000 and 2001. By the time the general elections was held the economy had contracted by about 10 percent over the past three years. The national currency, the Kina, had fallen to its lowest level since independence.
