The encyclopedia of separation science
The Encylopedia of Separation Science (ESS) is a major reference work available both in printed form (10 volumes) and on-line via ScienceDirect. Both forms of ESS are covered by this review. ESS tackled a task which, to my knowledge, had not been attempted previously. That is to provide a reference work that covers all aspects of separation science (defined by the editors as processes of any scale by which the components of a mixture are separated from each other without substantial chemical modification‚ÄövÑvp) at the theoretical, instrumental and practical levels. While there are some other reference works that cover general separation science, none comes even close to matching the extraordinary scope and depth of ESS.
