The aim of this study is to investigate and quantify the dynamic stability of a sample vessel during lifting operation. Experimental and numerical test results in calm water and regular/irregular waves are presented. The objective is to evaluate the vulnerability of a fishing trawler to the Excessive Acceleration (EA) stability failure mode with vessel-specific operation, in this context, lifting. Level 1 and 2, and Level 3 assessment are undertaken. The influence of lifting operation on EA in calm water and the dynamic right lever are also examined. The vulnerability of the model to the EA stability failure mode with and without a suspended load is further investigated in regular and irregular waves. The study finds that ships with a relatively low bridge deck, is less likely to suffer from the EA stability failure mode, but with a suspended load, the exceedance probability is higher.
