Vandiemenia ratkowskiana Hewson (Marchantiophyta): a revised description and reassessment of its taxonomic status

The endemic Tasmanian hepatic Vandiemenia ratkowskiana Hewson, originally referred to the family Vandiemeniaceae (Marchantiophyta), is restudied taxonomically. The rhizoids, female plants, calyptrae and sporophytes are described for the first time. These features are closest to those of Metzgeria (Metzgeriaceae) and support the placement of Vandiemenia within the Metzgeriaceae.
