A boost in government funding for renewable energy technologies has encouraged research and development within the field of ocean energy technologies in Australia. For most developers, the pre-commercial status of their technology is highly dependent on research and development activities, both in assessing energy potential and developing low-cost energy conversion technologies. This essay provides an example of how one of the more advanced international wave energy companies, Oceanlinx, has collaborated with academics at the Australian Maritime College to turn their research into reality.
