The purpose of this recording was to create layered textural group improvisations from a variety of source materials. Original themes by Haywood, a piece by Hopkins, several works associated with the pop music world and two open free improvisations form the content of the recording. The original works and standard repertoire from the pop world were stripped back to enable free-flowing collective improvisation from the trio to arise from very simple structures. The free pieces had no prior discussion or parameters set and were the result of deep listening and responding from the ensemble members. All pieces were recorded in one take as to present an "aural photograph" of the the recording event. The resultant music was new, innovative collective improvisation with the process uncertain throughout, which enabled bold musical statements to be spontaneously created.
