The work consists of a three-part continuous-play DVD for the Southern Gospel Choir (SGC). The performance addressed the question as to whether a Tasmania choir could through music and video convincingly interpret African American gospel music traditions for a local context. The music video (5mins) provided a source of evidence for an article by the author now accepted for publication in the leading international journal Popular Music (in press, August 2009). The DVD has become one of the most featured SGC image generator on local and national television, and is posted on YouTube (25000 hits, March 07 – Dec 07 ), My Space, Facebook and the SGC website. It generated further sales for SGC’s CD “Great Day”, and attracted Brand Tasmania as part of the sponsor and support base. The music video has increased national recognition and market share, and is unique within the Australian music landscape.
