The Heart of Nursing
Through a 2015 University of Tasmania Cross-disciplinary Incentive Grant Dr Nicolá Goc and Dr Kim McLeod from the School of Social Sciences joined with Professor Kenneth Welsh and Associate Professor Liz Cummings from the School of Health Sciences to work on the “The Heart of Nursing” project. The project led by Dr Goc investigates the way nurses view their role and explores the impact of public storytelling on this vision from the perspective of the nurse, the nursed and the audience.
A 50-minute documentary, The Heart of Nursing, with interviews by Kenneth Walsh and narrated and directed by Nicolá Goc, presents the stories of nurse practitioners, midwives and nursing academics working in Tasmania. The documentary celebrates nursing practice through the voices of the nurses and midwives. Dr Goc said it is hoped the insightful and poignant stories of the nurses and midwives will inform and educate nursing and midwifery students and will also engage the wider community in understanding and appreciating nursing’s role in health care.
In the presence of the Minister for Health the documentary will be premiered at a special viewing on International Nurses and Midwives Day 12 May 2016.
This project was supported by the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Health Organisation – South Liaison Committee.
