Some of our projects have been very large-scale, the biggest being The Passion according to St. Matthew by J.S. Bach that we performed in its entirety at St. David’s Cathedral in 2008 to a sell-out audience, a first such complete performance at that time for Tasmania. Funds raised from that performance (sponsored privately) gave the orchestra wherewithal to purchase instruments and have no financial concerns for the next seven years. Repertoire has been increasingly demanding to push the envelope and heighten interest in the players, allowing me to demand more from them, building on their growing capacity. Their audience following has also increased, also adding to other audiences as they become attracted to other performances.
