The second Melbourne International Guitar Festival was, as with the first such festival, the initiative of Peter Lynch who directed, organised and promoted the event. In addition to public recitals, masterclasses, workshops and various exhibits of instruments and print music, the Festival also hosted the finals of the Australian Classical Guitar Competition. Finalists for this prestigious event included Slava Grigoryan, Jonathon Paget and Craig Ogden, all of whom have gone on to international careers. International Festival guests included Timothy Walker and Judith Hall (UK), Robert Brightmore (UK) and Petur Jonasson (Iceland). Australian artists included John O'Donnell (harpsichord) and guitarists Sebastian Jorgensen, Ken Burns and Peter Lynch who was joined by Jeffrey Crellin (oboe) and Prudence Davis (flute) for a recital of works from their acclaimed CD Images. As a prelude to the Festival, Stepan Rak (Czech Republic) gave a recital featuring his own compositions.
