Standing in the Shadows of MONA - Revelator
As part of a major concert event at MONA, Andrew Legg formed a new contemporary ensemble (Revelator) to perform the new creative works that have been generated as part of his IRGS and now REGS. This music seeks to recontextualise African American gospel music within a secular Australian performance paradigm. Revelator is made up of the REGS team:
Michael Spiby – guitar and vocals
Stewart Long – Drums
Tony Featherstone – Hammond
Martin Duffy – Bass
Andrew Legg – piano, guitar and vocals
Spiby and Legg write the music together initially, referencing African American music tradition and culture, with the remainder of the ensemble contributing to song construction during the initial recording and subsequent post production processes. Three original songs were performed at this event:
Take Me To the Other Side
Brand New Joy
High On A Mountain
