There are many cultivars of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), each with their own rainfall requirements. However, in general perennial ryegrass requires the equivalent of at least 600 mm of rainfall per annum for productivity and persistence. Ryegrass is a high input grass and favours higher rainfall and good fertility.
