This is the second of two projects investigating the potential to select fibre grown plantation Eucalyptus nitens logs for the manufacture of structural engineered wood products (EWPs). The project preceding this study concluded that most veneer peeled from plantation E. nitens can be utilised in EWPs. However, if production is to be economically viable, sufficient recoveries of veneer from logs supplied must be of suitable stiffness and acceptable visual grade. These studies arose from an expression of interest by Tasmanian veneer products manufacturer Ta Ann Tasmania Pty Ltd. and E. nitens estate managers Forico Pty Ltd., in knowing the quality of EWPs that could be manufactured from Forico’s fibre managed E. nitens plantations.
