The School of Engineering at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) was contacted by Shree Minerals Ltd to measure the uniaxial tensile strength and the uniaxial compressive strength of rock cores drilled from a mine in north-western coast of Tasmania. It was decided that the uniaxial tensile and compressive strengths would be measured through conducting Brazilian tensile strength (BTS) and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) tests, respectively, according to the standards suggested by International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM).
