An investigation into the effects of varying environments on high school children.

The idea for this study originated as a result of the Symposium, \Social Peychology in the Classroom\" presented by the Paychology and Guidance Branch of the Education Department of Victoria at the A.N.Z.A.A.S. Conference in Melbourne in August 1955. Many of the ideas and techniques and the results which had been obtained by their application were thought-provoking but the underlying theme which was continually stressed by all the speakers was the one which led to this study. This is the theme which is implicit in the approach to practical problems of the Psychology and Guidance Branch of the Victoria Education Department; the school is a social situation and that problems of adjustment in the school can best be dealt with by taking into account the total sooial situation within which the child finds himself. It follows that the success or failure of the school in imparting information and attitudes will then be to a large extent dependent on the social structure of the school and the classroom."
