Cardiac [alpha] 1 receptors and their role in glucose uptake

thesis

The isolated Langendorf-perfused rat heart was assessed as a model for the study of a1-adrenoceptor binding parameters and receptor coupling of a1-mediated processes, particularly control of glucose uptake. The method avoided many of the problems associated with classical disrupted tissue studies, primarily low and varying yield, and allowed the relationship between binding and efficacy to be studied in the same preparation.
