The Ethernet communications network is a broadcast, multi-access system for local computer networking, using the techniques of carrier sense and collision detection. The requirement for this project involved the implementation of priority on Ethernet stations and thus the measurement and quantification of the network performance of an Ethernet channel. The desire for the capacity to transmit voice traffic on Local Area Networks is increasing due to the cost advantages that may be obtained. One of the optimum ways is giving priority to this sort of traffic to experience least amount of delay. The flexibility of programming in this design means that many variations in behaviour can be easily performed and examined. This project explains some of the measurement- characterising \priority\" traffic characteristics and demonstrating the system performance due to high priority and low priority traffic. The different network performance affecting factors like Average Delay Worst 5% Delay and Channel Utilisation have been observed here. Measured and Quantified analysis done in the project describes the Effects on these factors for priority and non-priority traffic due to the various load conditions."
