In this thesis I have attempted to show the signifcance of the themes of solitude and fraternity in Camus' work and also for our age, when the disintegration of commonly accepted social values and the so-called 'death' of God, combined with the horrors of two world wars and the concentration camps have left man more alone than ever before.I have studied in particular two kinds of solitude that dominate Camus' work: the solitude of old age and the solitude of which comes from believing that man is exiled in an absurd and hostile world.
