Local government is the concern of every man, woman and child in the community, but unfortunately very few of us con cern ourselves with local government. The indifference of the local ratepayers is shown by their lack of interest on polling day, but this of course is not unique to Tasmania. \Local government is democratic. The local councils are elected by the people. The people therefore have it in their hands to guard their own interests in the working of the local services\". Not many of us however take any interest until there is a sudden rise in our rates or until we have some complaint to make about the services not rendered by our particular council."
