The geology and structure of the Zeehan region, West Tasmania.

Since the discovery of tin at Mt. Heemskirk in 1876, and of galena at Zeehan in 1882, many geologists have worked on different problems within the region, chiefly on mineral fields or specific mines. The presence of fossiliferous Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian and Permian rocks has long been recognised but for many years the stratigraphical position and structural relationship of the older formations have been uncertain. Although detailed mapping is hindered by dense scrub, poor exposures and complex structures, significant advances have been made in recent years by geologists from State, University and mining institutions, especially since the identification of Middle Cambrian fossils in 1943. The thesis has as its foundation, therefore, the labour of several generations of geologists, to them a tribute is due.
